Notes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cod fillets (about 1-inch thick), thawed if using frozen
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon seasoning (such as Old Bay, lemon pepper, or Cajun spice)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the cod fillets: Brush both sides of the cod fillets with olive oil or melted butter. Season with your chosen herbs and spices, such as Old Bay, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Preheat the air fryer: Let the seasoned cod fillets marinate for about 5 minutes. While they marinate, preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray or oil.
  3. Cook the cod: Place the fillets in the air fryer basket. Cook for 8–10 minutes, depending on thickness, flipping halfway through for even cooking. The cod is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) and has a golden, crispy exterior.
  4. Prepare the dipping sauce: While the cod cooks, mix together a dipping sauce. For a classic tartar sauce, combine 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons finely chopped pickles or sweet pickle relish, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon Dijon or yellow mustard, and a pinch of salt. Alternatively, blend avocado, lime juice, garlic, and salt for a creamy Avocado Cilantro Dipping Sauce.

Tips:

  • Thaw frozen cod in the fridge overnight or place it in a sealed bag submerged in cold water for a quicker thaw.
  • Pat the fillets dry with a paper towel before seasoning to remove excess moisture for better browning.
  • Preheat the air fryer to ensure even cooking and a crispy result.
  • Flip the fillets halfway through cooking for even crispiness.
  • Ensure fillets are uniform in thickness to avoid over-drying thinner pieces.
  • Check the cod's internal temperature to ensure it has reached 145°F for safe consumption.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the cod's best texture and flavor.
